I wouldn't know what face to make in this situation either lol so I'm with Chris here.

If I were in Chris' shoes, my feelings wouldn't change. Anyone who touches my kid, digs his own grave.

@MK_Wizard: You got it. Do Not Touch.

First off, he's his own person, not Little Me. It's my job to help him develop and keep him away from people who would use him. Second, what the hell? You need something to uh love? Get a cat--they have plenty of personality and are pretty good at defending their sense of self.

@awhorl: Plus, this guy is on the high horse about Chris being all flawed, but what about him? If he was truly good, wouldn't he have gotten her away from the abusive king the first time? And for FREE?

Everything he's saying is incredibly self-serving. He's one of those people who hurts and manipulates people, and then blames it on them.

Chris seems like she's just done with all of this nonsense. Some have said women are easily swayed by words like his.

Chris says fuck that nonsense, why have you not died yet?

Plus, I am not playing the "she's a product of her environment" card--yuk ptui--but the plot has not afforded Chris any woman mentor to help her find a practical, established role in her world as she finds it. How to keep house and make pies cheerfully is not any easier to figure out by yourself than is how to defend your country from an invading army--either practically or emotionally. "If you loved me enough you would learn to love making pies" is a sentimental oversimplification--being a family mainstay is something you grow into gradually, and there are lots of lessons.

Moreover, it's hard enough to learn to strike a healthy balance between generosity and self-gratification without being misled by media--in this case, by reading medieval romances, which were basically escapism when they weren't wish-fulfillment for armchair social climbers.

That said, any woman (or man) who has a good mentor is extremely lucky, and those who don't and find their way anyway end up being honking strong and good people. End of rant. ;D

I think maybe it makes sense Rumple didn't understand that kind of stuff. That is human, or er, animal but not magical. My mum once said that if you love someone (a kid, a pet, a partner, anyone) that sentence has no "because" - you can appreciate their qualities but they are not the reason for the love. And that people who go on about how they love their ___ because they can do X and Y and win prizes don't really know love at all.

@Oly-RRR: Those are incredibly wise words, thank you. I'm going to remember them.
