There we go, that did the trick.
Couldn't have done it better myself.

King he may be.... but the wife card trumps the Queen Consort. *LOLS*

Reply Cave, November 3rd, 2015, 7:27 pm

Mommy, Daddy, stop fighting. ;_;

Have to say, I'm probably the only person who doesn't hate the king (yes, I forgot his name). I love how every character is written so realistically. Nothing they do or say feels forced.

Reply Random Fan (Guest), November 3rd, 2015, 10:08 pm

@Cave: I don't hate him either, or really even dislike him very strongly. I have pretty neutral feelings towards the guy.

I think part of why I don't have issues with him is that very little of Chris's problems are actually his fault. Yes, it was awful to lock her up until she made him enough gold to satisfy his desire, but he isn't the one who put her in that situation (that is arguably Chris or the fair's fault). And what kind of king would pass up easy money for himself and his kingdom?

Really, I find his interactions with Chris saddening, as I see it as he is trying to make it work. Albeit, in way too "formal" for it have the desired affect.

I don't think he's great person deserving of a lot of praise, but he doesn't treat his wife or son badly either (as far as we can tell). He's a diplomat- a politician. So I don't dislike him, no. I dislike his values.

Reply Sapar, November 4th, 2015, 7:08 pm

@Random Fan: The reason why people tend to dislike him was because he killed Chris's brother. Which... isn't really fair, because he had no way of knowing they were related. Plus the fact that her bro went nuts and threatened to kill a knight, the royal guard would have to be pretty incompetent to not go straight to lethal force over that.

I'm not really sure Chris is at fault either, though. I mean.... don't get me wrong, Chris DID kinda get herself into this whole mess by coming to the castle.

Except that she didn't.

The whole reason she got tossed into the prison in the first place was because of some crazy magic shenanigans that we all know she wasn't capable of at the time. Which led directly to the deal with Rumple.

That leaves only one character to blame, and that's the lovable asshat himself! Ah, Mr. Stiltskin, I can't wait to see what devilry you cook up next.

Reply Nyzer (Guest), November 5th, 2015, 10:27 am

@Sapar: Well, to some extent. He's certainly at fault for asking for her kid and all, but for Chris getting herself so entangled in the castle's affairs? He called her out for making promises she couldn't deliver instead of, y'know, doing anything else, and even tried to back way the hell off after the first two deals (in which he basically got nothing of value at all, and Chris insulted and belittled him throughout).

You might be able to argue that he could have saved her brother, but it's very heavily implied that a Fair can't even fight a human and expect to win, let alone whatever it was that killed her brother. (Magically enhanced human?)

Chris trying to dodge responsibility and take the easy way out, regardless of the risks, is what led her to that situation. Rumple only arranged one final deal because he could get something he really wanted out of it; he'd made it clear he didn't want to deal with her at ALL except for that reason.

And even this older Chris is still just evading responsibility instead of trying to find another way out. She has no plan at all but refuses the possibility of sleeping with the guy who arguably saved her life in order to PROTECT HER CHILD?
I doubt Rumple would've agreed to that, but if her assumption HAD been true, it would've meant 20 minutes of getting intimate with someone she strongly dislikes (something she should be familiar with by now) and then all her worries would've been resolved two days ago. But no, she threw that possibility aside in favor of her no-plan. Brilliant.

@Nyzer: Meh, alright. You got me there.

Still bothers me how people hate the prince, though. He didn't even DO anything :/

Reply Sky (Guest), November 5th, 2015, 9:28 pm

@Sapar: Is it just me, or does anyone else get the feeling Chris' brother isn't actually dead? The king only said he was "dealt with", right? And one of those magically enhanced guards seems to keep giving Chris funny looks...

Reply The_mad_one, November 3rd, 2015, 7:29 pm

I think maybe the hint is still a liiiiiittle too subtle.

Reply Mythee, November 4th, 2015, 7:48 am

I don't have any sympathy for the King; regardless of the parts of his behaviour that do make sense, his attitude vis-a-vis the whole killing her brother thing was unacceptable. It kind of belies that he's got rotten insides.

I love how she can so easily fool him with a show like this now even after idk number years of marriage x'D

Reply Guest, November 4th, 2015, 4:44 pm

@Mythee: Does she actually fool him? I think a politician would be quite used to spew and to detect BS.

Reply Nyzer (Guest), November 5th, 2015, 10:41 am

@Mythee: It's very heavily implied that this King had Seen Some Shit prior to that. Remember, he grew up in a family that turned a very large number of conscripts into mindless automatons in order to win a war, and he resolved to not be like them.

Also bear in mind that it was ALSO very heavily implied that he knew Chris was deceiving him, and he gave her ample time to admit it without ever coming across as threatening about it. He flat out TOLD her that he needed someone to help him remake the kingdom's image, a female mage with the skill and the background to make it work, and she still went "uh huh" and kept thinking about herself more than anyone else.

He strikes me as ruthless, but for the right cause. We don't know enough about his background or the situation around him to know why he did things that way. He's definitely not a good guy by nature, but he's trying to BE one. Or so it seems.

Reply Random Fan (Guest), November 8th, 2015, 12:41 am

@Nyzer: "Do the ends justify the means?" I think the varied answers to this saying sums up why people do or don't like the king. If you answer "yes", then you have less reason to dislike him. But if you answer "no", then you'll probably hate his guts. If you answer "depends"... Then... I dunno... Also, I will never play Scruples with you. Ever.

@Subaru: Or put some spooky guards on her.

Reply Riverfox237 (Guest), November 6th, 2015, 11:42 am

You know, I'm both puzzled and really amused by something I've noticed: for all that the king manipulated and extorted her into becoming his wife, and was fairly unconcerned when his guards killed her brother, he is remarkably intimidated by his wife. He's not downright demeaning her, he's freaked out that she's having an 'emotional moment', and he was actually discussing what SOUNDS like quality time with her. It's almost like somewhere down the line he decided he was going to try and be a half-decent husband??? I don't even know what to make of that, I mean you don't just gloss over those earlier mentioned things, but it's also really rather nice to NOT see him continuing to be a manipulative jerk out in the open.

Just some thoughts! :D

Reply theInsaneArtist, November 20th, 2015, 11:06 am

@Riverfox237: I was thinking that, too.

Reply chaos-of-vinnie, November 25th, 2015, 2:27 pm

I'd be shocked if I was the king as it seems to come from no where, however, she is pretty right.

Reply IronDog, September 10th, 2017, 6:28 pm

Oh dear. I'm torn between congratulating her and being cross over her perpetuation of a stereotype. You write her so well.
