Hi guys! You mighta noticed I didn't update on Tuesday. I did, but it went up on Mangamagazine. You can find the updates here- =en But wait! First... I think it's best I be straight with you guys and explain what's going on.

I'm at the unfortunate time in my life where I have to start worrying about making money and such. Hence why I started uploading on MM- artists get paid for pageviews there. HOWEVER, there is another option I could take. Before long, I could make a kickstarter, one that would let me get this printed as a book, and maybe let me continue to work on comics full time rather than getting a job elsewhere.

If I went down the kickstarter route, I'd still continue updating online, of course. And I think I'd probably go back to uploading pages twice a week here again. What can I say, SJ is cosy. Plus MM is implementing a new scheme where you pay a little to read the whole of a comic there. It sounds a good system, but if I was going to be making a kickstarter, I wouldn't feel comfortable asking my readers to pay twice, y'know. So... Yeah. Opinions would be appreciated.

As for the comic page D: Don't wanna ignore my comic page I worked on, umm... I WANT A COAT LIKE TOBY'S! That'll do.

See y'all soon.

If you're choosing between kickstarter and MM, honestly, I'd rather you do kickstarter. I really, really dislike MangaMagazine's website. I only use it to read updates from 2 comics I really enjoy - which is including yours - but don't dare touch it for anything else because I feel like it's interface is a mess.

BUT THAT'S JUST ME. I mean, if MM is paying you well and it seems worth it to you to just stay there, than by all means do so! I'll still read your comic there if that's where you want to put it.

...I just hate their website. :'D

Vote for kickstarter [Encouraging] I love kickstarter, and would gladly donate through that than pay money to some orange comic-hosting website.

so... do they not have parents?

I would absolutely support you, MM or Kickstarter, but I prefer Kickstarter xD

If you could find someone with enough experience, and it wouldn't be too difficult, you could make your own webpage/website to host all of your comics and other stuff like sketches. You might even be able to make a bit of money off it by letting something like Google Ads or another advertisement thing have a small panel at the bottom of the page. People wouldn't have to look at it and you could get income based off of number of page views, which I'm sure is a lot.

Kickstarter all the way love.

Reply Catfeather, October 12th, 2012, 10:09 pm

Honestly, I prefer Kickstarter as well. And you'd probably get more that way, especially if you went the same route Twokinds did, and offered bonuses to higher donations.

Then again, I have no money anyway, so whatever works best. I'm just happy you're sharing your work! :D

y burritos @Falconer: i agree.

Reply Zelkova, October 13th, 2012, 3:59 am

kickstarter. People have already stated that they wanted to buy your comics in a hardcover form. Just gotta remember to go back and ink those pages.

Reply Cave, October 13th, 2012, 10:00 am

I think the Kickstarter is a good idea. Have you also considered (or tried) submitting your works to publishers? I know it's not easy to get in, but your artwork is absolutely amazing and much better than some of the stuff I have seen out there. Especially in the "OEL" works that have been published. -_-

I haven't checked out manga magazine, but is there a way to give out "gift certificates" there? If so, maybe that can be included in a certain amount of pledge in the Kickstarter.

There is also the option of having it printed on demand with a service like Ka-Blam or Comixpress. You only have to pay a small upfront fee and then you get a percentage of sales. The downside is you obviously won't get any money until after it is done and printed.

well i felt strong enough about this that i actually made an account with smack jeeves, i would have to say kickstarter, simply because then those who love your comic but can't afford to support you can still enjoy your work. also i'm sure that there are many many people, like me, who would absolutely LOVE to actually buy and own their own copies of your work.

Reply Mr. Henry, October 13th, 2012, 4:31 pm

I'd definitely support this if you went with kickstarter!

Reply Dracorium12, October 13th, 2012, 7:13 pm

Kickstarter is the better option for a reason, it'd be awesome if you would go that route =D

Reply ChaosSorceror Davidicus (Guest), October 13th, 2012, 7:14 pm

The root of all evils. I would support your decision to make your comics published and payment for all comicables makes sense. You need money to make things work. But I'll be honest, I'm poor as hell, and my odds of getting a job seem to decrease with every day. So if you make the comic priced... I can't get it, sorry. Go for it if you can.

I'd rather not read a good comic at all than read it on MM. I'd also much rather you be independent from sites like that, and deal with your readers more directly. Kickstarter is great for that <3

I have no idea what this comic is going to be about and I'm living off savings myself, but I'd pitch in to help a good artist <3
(Also, kudos for... everything. I'm too chicken to try to make money with my comics.)

I vote kickstarter. I would so buy this!

Reply avian-reader, October 14th, 2012, 8:23 am

Duuuuuude I've just realised that Toby here is an upscaled version of Toby from Mokepon

This is awesome.

Gurl get making some eggs! Your handsome brother is hungry!
Ah man four o'clock T.T I can't imagine having to get up at that time everyday.

I have no idea about either of those web-sites, though, I think I would rather pay a some at the end and get the whole book rather than pay page by page, ya know? :)

Oh, there you go, bringing class into it again!

Reply Beacon80 (Guest), January 14th, 2014, 7:56 pm

Decisions... I like the idea of you getting paid for me looking at the comic, but MM doesn't have the alt text or the author's comments.

The solution: Click through on both sites!
